Comparison

DraftFilter vs GPTZero

GPTZero and DraftFilter both score documents and highlight sentences. GPTZero centers a broad authenticity suite for education and review: AI detection, Writing Replay, plagiarism and hallucination checks, and writing feedback. DraftFilter centers a scan–rewrite–rescore quality gate for writers and content pipelines. The practical difference is what happens after a sentence is flagged.

DraftFilter and GPTZero, feature by feature

All GPTZero details below were checked on July 9, 2026 against its live product, pricing, API-plan, technology, benchmark, terms, and announcement pages. That check happened after GPTZero's June 23 agreement to join Superhuman; GPTZero says the daily-user product suite remains in place. Sources are listed below.

Free tier$0 — 10,000 words per month, up to 10,000 characters per scan, Basic AI Scan, three free Advanced Scans, and five free AI Highlights in the Chrome extension.$0 — 10,000 scan words per month at up to 15,000 characters per scan with an account, plus three one-time full rewrites; anonymous scans allow up to 5,000 characters with no account.
Paid plansPremium is $23.99 month-to-month or $155.88/year ($12.99/month equivalent) for 300,000 words per month. Professional is $45.99 month-to-month or $299.88/year ($24.99/month equivalent) for 500,000 words per month.Plus is $15/month or $108/year ($9/month equivalent) for 200,000 scan words and 30,000 humanize words per month. Pro is $39/month or $280.80/year and adds API access.
Per-scan limits10,000 characters on Free, 50,000 on Premium, and 150,000 on Professional. Paid batch uploads allow 50 files on Premium and 250 on Professional.15,000 characters per scan on Free and 50,000 on paid plans. API jobs accept 100 items at up to 20,000 characters each.
Sentence-level feedbackA sentence classifier and sentence-level highlighting show which passages contributed to the document result; Advanced AI Scan adds more detailed analysis. The scanner returns a document-level public `is_ai` value and a sentence heatmap; higher values and stronger warning color mean more AI-like.
Humanizer / rewriteNo automatic humanizer appears in the current product or paid-plan lists. GPTZero lists writing feedback and an AI Tutor, and its May 2026 writing guide recommends editing ideas, evidence, and precision instead of using humanizer tools. The built-in Humanizer rewrites the sentences the detector flags, rescores candidates, and keeps the version that sounds most human. It is for revising your own draft, not concealing authorship.
API pricingA separate API subscription starts at $45/month for 300,000 base words. Additional usage is $150 per million words, up to 1,000,000 words on that plan; API inputs allow up to 150,000 characters.API access is bundled with Pro ($39/month) and Max ($200/month), alongside their web-app scan and humanize allowances; there is no separate API subscription.
API workflowAccepts text and files, returns probabilities and statistics at document, paragraph, and sentence level, and supports batched file inference.Score and rewrite jobs support 100-item batches, completion webhooks, bulk result retrieval, public share links, PDF reports, idempotency keys, an OpenAPI spec, and published rate limits.
Methodology transparencyPublishes a deep-learning and sentence-classifier overview plus a February 2026 benchmark method that names detector versions, explains dataset construction and metrics, and links raw predictions.Publishes the scoring approach, calibration artifact, threshold policy, TPR at fixed FPR on named labeled splits, and limitations. No DraftFilter RAID leaderboard entry is claimed; the external submission is still in preparation.
SupportSupport center and contact form; the API pages direct API questions to api@gptzero.me.support@draftfilter.com.
Refund termsIts terms say all purchases are non-refundable; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid term.DraftFilter's current terms do not state a refund policy; billing questions go to support@draftfilter.com.
AdsThe current pricing table does not list an ad-supported tier or an ad-removal upgrade. No ads on any tier.

Both show the sentence. The next step differs.

GPTZero already provides sentence-level highlighting, so the difference is not whether it can point to a passage — it can. Its current writing tools focus on feedback, grammar, source finding, and process evidence such as Writing Replay. It does not list an automatic humanizer, and its own May 2026 guidance argues that surface rewrites do not improve the thinking behind a draft.

DraftFilter closes a narrower loop. After the heatmap identifies AI-like sentences, the built-in Humanizer generates revisions, rescores them with the detector, and keeps the version that sounds most human. That scan–rewrite–rescore loop is the product's central writing workflow, in both the web app and API.

Published methods, not a made-up showdown

GPTZero now publishes a substantive benchmark method: it describes how its datasets are constructed, identifies detector versions, defines its reported metrics, and links prediction files. DraftFilter publishes a different posture centered on a named calibration artifact, held-out splits, and true-positive rates at fixed false-positive budgets.

Those numbers come from different evaluation setups and cannot be read as a controlled head-to-head. DraftFilter also has no public RAID leaderboard entry today. Until an external result exists, this page makes no detection-quality claim in either direction; the methodology page is the place to judge our evidence and limitations.

Checked after the Superhuman announcement

On June 23, 2026, GPTZero announced an agreement to join Superhuman. Its announcement says nothing changes for daily users and that its existing authenticity suite will continue with additional resources and integrations. The prices, limits, products, and API plans on this page were checked against the live pages after that announcement, not copied from older reviews.
